At near-dark, an irregular row of tall, dark evergreen trees, silhouetted against a dusk-blue sky, with misty ground and dark silhouettes of low bushes in the foreground.

Over the last few weeks, as the days have gotten shorter and shorter and shorter, with darkness arriving by 4:30 now here at 45.5152° N, I have found myself yearning to say yes to nature’s invitations

🦥 to slow down

🍂 to let go of anything I’m holding on to that I could release

❄️ to let there be some fallow time, rather than pushing to get to decisions or actions

It’s hard to set aside the cultural expectations – to stay just as busy as always (or even busier as we juggle holiday prep and activities with all the usual work/school/life demands.

But the invitation is there. And there is value in accepting it.

I’ll be slowing down for the next three weeks. Posting less, working less, resting more, trusting that even a little bit of fallow time nurtures the growth to come.

What invitations are you feeling from the natural world right now? And what happens when you accept those invitations? I’d love to hear in the comments.
